Learn about different approaches to conducting research in LISLibrary and Information Science An interdisciplinary field that examines how physical and digital information is organized, accessed, collected, managed, disseminated and used, particularly in library settings., including what different methods can and cannot tell us about a subject and what to look out for to ensure your research resultsResults The section of a research article where researchers share the results from the research. This section takes the results and directly connects them to the research questions or hypotheses posed at the start of the article. Also can be called “Findings.” are valid.

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:

  • Discuss quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods approaches to LIS research and articulate the uses and drawbacks of common research approaches in order to consider what they can and cannot tell us about a subject
  • Identify critical research frameworks and methods in order to better recognize how research can challenge systems of power
  • Articulate key components that contribute to research validity in order to apply this knowledge to your own project
