Lesson 3: Writing Skills

In this lesson, you will examine writing strategies and important aspects more closely, while also exploring the benefits and tensions inherent in co-authoring. This lesson provides concrete guidance about important issues like argument, attribution, and organization.

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:

  • Emulate already-published research in your venue of choice to structure your work
  • Locate publication requirements and articulate strategies for integrating these into the project from the beginning of your process
  • Select the most appropriate writing and time management strategies for you and your project
  • Facilitate a conversation with a co-author in order to divide writing, ensure consistency, and align preferences for publication (author order, copyright, etc.)
  • Craft a plan for editing your writing with the goal to improve logic and argument, length, and organization
