Course 4: Writing and Editing

Course 4 will cover some of the basics for getting started with writing your research over the following lessons:

  • Lesson 1: What And Where to Publish, which explores different types of publications and publication outlets;
  • Lesson 2: The LISLibrary and Information Science An interdisciplinary field that examines how physical and digital information is organized, accessed, collected, managed, disseminated and used, particularly in library settings. Literature ReviewLiterature Review The process of summarizing, synthesizing and/or critiquing literature around a specific topic/idea. This work can help a researcher understand what has happened before and also how past research intersects and or diverges from other research. A literature review can be a full-length manuscript or a subsection within a larger research article., where you will learn about how to conduct a literature review;
  • Lesson 3: Writing Skills, where you will learn about the role the literature review plays in Library and Information ScienceLibrary and Information Science An interdisciplinary field that examines how physical and digital information is organized, accessed, collected, managed, disseminated and used, particularly in library settings. (LIS) research, both as a resource for learning and for communicating your own research; and
  • Lesson 4: Self-Management, which will introduce techniques and strategies to stay focused in order to complete a research and writing project in time for a deadline.

Recommended audience: MLIS students, early career, or anyone pursuing a research project for the first time.
